Personal Statement

I view therapy as a forum where individuals can gain a better understanding of themselves, each other and the impact of their previous life experience. My style is collaborative, meaning that my clients and I work together to create a safe therapy relationship where this type of self exploration can best occur. I bring expertise in human emotion and experience to the process, and my clients bring expertise about themselves and their own life experience. My style ranges from directive to open ended, and I focus on a client's past and present experiences, as well as future goals. My practice includes a focus on wellness and resilience, as well as on increasing self awareness and self acceptance. In addition, I focus on the many contexts that impact one's experience. More specifically, I emphasize how gender, culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and spiritual background have shaped and are shaping a client's life path.
