Personal Statement
People often ask me if it's difficult to hear people's problems for a job and wonder if it brings me down. I respond to that question with an emphatic "no." I actually have the opposite reaction, it not only doesn't bring me down, I usually leave work feeling happier than when I came in because I love what I do and deeply care about the people that I work with.
My work is meaningful and exciting because I get the privilege of assisting people in discovering new possibilities, practical solutions and hope. I truly believe that there is hope and light in every situation, it's just a matter of making the journey to a better place, learning and using new skills, finding practical solutions and having encouragement along the way. I see my job as a therapist as someone who accompanies people on their journeys while listening, educating, and encouraging.
