Personal Statement
I believe each person has a natural ability to heal. It is my joy to work with others as they experience this and to help them to identify the blocks which prevent them from thriving in life, rather than just surviving. I am a caring, patient, and capable therapist who enjoys engaging in the process of self discovery and change. I use different approaches to treat different issues. Some are short term and some take a little longer.
I am a traditionally trained therapist but believe in treating the individual while identifying the impact of the various systems in their lives. As such, I believe it is important to explore family and relationship patterns to understand which patterns may be stuck and being repeated which are no longer useful. I encourage involvement in other support groups, and will refer to them as appropriate. I often work collaboratively with other professionals, such as dieticians or physicians. My strong belief that the body and mind are connected has lead me to become certified in EMDR and to encourage the use of yoga and meditation.
I have over 20 years experience working with families and individuals challenged by addictions, loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, and the changes of everyday life. Over the years I have become trained in many different theories and practices, including family systems, self-psychology, addictions treatment, and various trauma and brain-based therapies. Foremost among all these, though, is the importance of the fit between therapist and client. My main belief it that I see the challenges we experience as opportunities to grow and strengthen ourselves and the world around us, and feel honored to participate in another's growth and discovery.
