Personal Statement
The culmination of my 57 years of active employment as an educator, educational consultant, author and curriculum developer; counselor, therapist, and psychological and career evaluator; organizational administrator and consultant; tradesman; facilities developer and manager; and consulting historian; has been the realization that the basic dynamic force behind all human activity is a striving from a feeling of inferiority, often intensified by various severe discouragements, to one of significance. This self-damaging feeling makes it all the more difficult, but not impossible, for the individual to satisfactorily fulfill the basic life tasks of work, love and family, and friendship and community. It is this situation that often brings upon the individual the conviction of impending as well as actual loss. I seek to help my clients correct these mistaken beliefs by bringing to their level of awareness, through the use of objective assessment instruments, the lifestyle analysis, and individual therapy/counseling, the interfering ideas they may hold, the source of their generation, and the part that they play in blocking movements toward a goal of significance, happiness, and fulfillment. Correction of these self-defeating beliefs is then possible. In carrying out this reconstruction, I am aided by an orientation toward the life tasks that emphasizes social interest, economic determinism, and social psychology in an Adlerian/Cognitive model.
