Personal Statement

Psychological counseling is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, stress and other emotional and behavioral disturbances. Depending upon the issues to be addressed, both short-term and long-term therapies have proven to alleviate symptoms with sustained improvement. Counseling has also helped people gain a greater understanding of themselves, develop new ways of being or interacting within relationships, work through loss and find direction. Feelings of discomfort as well as upsetting physical or behavioral symptoms often lead people to seek counseling. Understanding begins the process of improvement and the empathic nature of the treatment relationship promotes enduring change.

My practice consists of mainly adult professionals who work in the loop area and are coping with anxiety, depression, stress, loss, insecurity or relationship issues. I also treat a select number of high school and college aged students who are dealing with adjustment problems.

I began treating patients in 1984 while earning a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Tufts University. Since then, I have completed my doctorate in Clinical Psychology (1992) at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have also completed advanced training in adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Institute for Psychoanalysis in Chicago.
