Personal Statement
I am a firm believer in the efficacy of group therapy. Whether an individual is recovering from alcoholism, drug addiction, compulsive gambling, sex addiction, and/or depression and anxiety, they have undoubtedly also experienced some sense of social isolation. It seems to me that social isolation is becoming endemic in our society with the ever-increasing absorption of people's attention into virtual reality and electronic communication. Group therapy affords participants an opportunity to explore and work on their interpersonal relatedness. Such efforts generally result in more rewarding relationships with important people in their lives.
While I am trained to provide both individual and group therapy, I favor the group modality. I will often meet with a client several times individually before they start in a group. This is flexible and greatly dependent upon the needs and wishes of the client.
